03 - Vectors & Projectiles
Summary: Since we’re now masters of accelerated linear motion, we now move beyond “linear” to a second dimension. The key to this unit is realizing that motion in the X direction is independent of motion in the Y direction with time are the common variable that connect X and Y. Everything we learned about Nifty equations still applies, but only for Y. Don’t worry if that sounds complicated, it will make sense as you get into it. While we’ve dabbled with the concepts of vectors a couple of times before, now we get into the math of vectors, specifically the challenge of vector addition. This helps understand 2-d motion and makes it possible to solve complex problems involving two simultaneous motions, like crossing a moving stream or the motion of a plane in air that’s in motion itself. Weather permitting, we’ll get outside and do a stomp rocket lab as well as some indoor labs and demos.
